Stack, listen, and let it fall.

Softfall is a falling-block stacker with nothing to beat. The speed never increases. The tower has no ceiling. There is no game over. You place pieces, the tower grows, and you stop when you feel like stopping.

It never ends

No timer. No levels. No difficulty curve. Nothing speeds up — not after ten lines, not after two hundred. Softfall keeps count of your lines and your best chain because they are pleasant to watch, but there is no score and nothing to chase. The game will never end your run, so the moment you stop is yours to choose.

It waits for you

Close the tab and come back tomorrow: the tower is still standing, exactly where you left it, with the same piece in hand. A game with no ending has no business losing your work to a refresh. It saves in this browser, on this device.

It is made to be heard

Every sound in Softfall sits below 1.2 kHz — soft attacks, low volumes, nothing bright, nothing sharp. Sounds are panned to the column your hand is in, and no two are ever identical: each one is pitched and shaped a little differently, the way real objects are. Sliding a piece along the floor scrapes. Moving it in mid-air taps. A piece falling ten rows lands heavier than one falling a single row.

Everyone’s ears are different, so all fourteen sound families have their own slider. Press R, or the MIX button, and tune the game to your ears and your headphones. It remembers.

The tower collapses

Complete a line and it cuts straight through your tower. A piece that loses a cell breaks into rubble and falls block by block; a piece that survives intact stays whole and drops as one. That is where chain reactions come from — a line clears, everything above settles into the gap, and sometimes that completes the next line on its own. And the next.

Languages

English and French. Softfall picks your browser’s language on its own; the EN / FR button in the header switches it at any time, and remembers.

Before you play

Headphones are strongly recommended. The whole game lives in the low end, and laptop speakers throw most of it away.

Softfall needs a recent desktop browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari — and it runs on Android in Chrome. It does not run inside the itch.io desktop app, and it does not run on iPhone or iPad. An Android version is coming.
